About the Updated Formula of mNEXSPIKE (Moderna)
The 2026–2027 mNEXSPIKE (Moderna) formula has been updated to target the XFG variant, a descendant of the JN.1 lineage, to better match the strains circulating this season. Built on Moderna’s next-generation mRNA technology, it focuses the immune response on key parts of the virus’s spike protein. Like other mRNA vaccines, it does not contain live virus and cannot cause COVID-19.

How many doses do I need?

What’s new in this season’s formula?
The 2026–2027 mNEXSPIKE® formula targets the XFG variant (JN.1 lineage), replacing last season’s LP.8.1 formula to better match currently circulating strains.
What are the side effects?
Common effects include arm pain or swelling, fatigue, headache, muscle or joint aches, and chills. Most go away within a few days. Seek care right away for chest pain, shortness of breath, or a racing heartbeat.
Can I get it with other vaccines?
Yes. It can be given at the same visit as your flu shot or other vaccines. Ask our pharmacy team to schedule them together.
What if I’m pregnant or breastfeeding?
Guidance for pregnancy has been changing. Please talk with your healthcare provider or our pharmacists about whether the vaccine is right for you.

When should I get it if I was recently vaccinated?
